Why do Marion County districts carry higher vouchers than Hamilton County?
Because the voucher is 90% of each district's own per-student state funding, and that figure differs from district to district. On IDOE's 2026-27 list, all 11 Marion County districts sit above every Hamilton County district.
It doesn't matter where the private school is. A Lawrence Township child attending a Fishers school carries the Lawrence figure.
How many students in each county used a voucher in 2025-26?
In period one of 2025-26, IDOE counted 19,401 in Marion, 2,330 in Hamilton, 1,323 in Hendricks, 1,548 in Johnson County, by county of residence.
Marion's total grew from 14,736 in 2023-24 to 19,401 in 2025-26 in period one.
