On My Way Pre-K

Indiana's state-funded pre-K voucher for four-year-olds in working families at or below 135% of the federal poverty level, capped at 2,500 children statewide for 2026-27 and at $6,800 per child.

Last verified: October 2026

Who qualifies for On My Way Pre-K in 2026-27?

A child who turns four by August 1, 2026 and will start kindergarten in 2027-28, living in a household at or below 135% of the federal poverty level, with a parent or guardian who is working, in school or in job training. Job search no longer counts.

If money remains, FSSA may offer a limited number of vouchers up to 185% of poverty for families meeting the same work rule or receiving SSDI or SSI.

How much does On My Way Pre-K pay an Indianapolis provider?

Up to $6,800 for the year, paid at $147.82 a week for 46 weeks. If the provider charges more, the family owes the difference, which FSSA calls an overage.

Enrollment is capped at 2,500 children statewide for 2026-27, so the program is small relative to the metro. Approved providers include ministries and church preschools as well as public schools and centers.

What if my four-year-old doesn't get On My Way Pre-K?

Look at the private school's own pre-K pricing and at SGO scholarships, which Indiana allows from age four, and at CCDF child care vouchers if you qualify for the waitlist.

The Choice Scholarship begins at kindergarten, at age five, so a child in a Choice school's pre-K room can move into its kindergarten on the voucher the following year.
