Relocating to the Indy area? Your district sets the voucher

In Indiana the Choice award follows the public school district you live in. Choosing a house can change what a private school costs you by about a thousand dollars a year.

Last verified: October 2026

Why does my address change the private school voucher?

Because the award is 90% of the state funding for your district of legal settlement. The spread across the four counties for 2026-27 runs from $6,395 in Carmel Clay to $7,456 in IPS territory.

When do new Indiana residents become eligible?

Once you have legal settlement in Indiana. A family arriving in fall can enroll in period two, November 1 to January 15, for a half-year award.

Does it matter where the private school is?

Not for the amount. A student living in Warren Township who attends a Carmel school carries the Warren figure; 44.7% of Choice students statewide attended a school outside their home district in 2025-26.

Where can I compare neighborhoods?

Each community page lists every private school we found there, with Choice, SGO and ESA status.
