Free and reduced-cost pre-K across the Indy metro

Indiana's voucher starts at kindergarten. Before that, three programs can help, each with tight limits.

Last verified: October 2026

Is pre-K free in Indianapolis?

Only for families who qualify for On My Way Pre-K, which covers up to $6,800 for a four-year-old in a working household at or below 135% of poverty, with 2,500 seats statewide in 2026-27.

Can an SGO scholarship pay for pre-K?

Yes, Indiana allows SGO scholarships from age four, at the SGO's partner schools, for households within 400% of the free and reduced-price lunch line.

What about child care for a younger sibling?

CCDF vouchers cover children under 13 at or below 135% of poverty, but new applicants join a waitlist that stood near 29,800 children statewide in late July 2026.

Will my child stay at the same school for kindergarten?

If the school is on the Choice list, yes: the voucher takes over from kindergarten, at the district amount.
